Hey, guys! What’s up? It’s Christine Seale, the High Level Queen! Today, we’re diving into a crucial topic for all digital marketers out there – email compliance. With Google and Yahoo cracking down, it’s vital to stay ahead of the game to ensure your emails continue to reach your audience.
In this video, I’ll guide you through five simple steps to set up your email compliance, protect your deliverability, and improve the effectiveness of your email campaigns. Plus, stick around until the end for a bonus tip on checking your email spam rate!
Step 1: Set Up Your Own Subdomain
First things first, stop sending emails through the default message sender. Instead, set up your own subdomain. This might sound intimidating, but trust me, it’s not as scary as it seems. Setting up a subdomain is essential if you want to deliver emails to Gmail or Yahoo addresses reliably.
To get started, go to your DNS provider settings. I use IONOS, but you can use any provider like GoDaddy or Cloudflare. In your High Level account, navigate to Agency Account settings, click on Email Services, and enter your domain name. Choose something like mg.yourdomain.com or lc.yourdomain.com – it must be unique and not your root domain.
Once added, High Level will give you DNS records to set up. This involves adding five types of records – TXT and CNAME – to your DNS settings. It might take between 24 to 48 hours for these changes to propagate, so be patient!
Step 2: Add DMARC Authentication
Next, we need to add DMARC authentication. This step ensures that your emails are protected from being marked as spam. Use a tool like DMARCian to check if your domain is compliant. If it’s not, add a DMARC record in your DNS settings. Make sure to use your subdomain here, like dmarc.mg.yourdomain.com. This small step can significantly improve your email deliverability.
Step 3: Ensure Consistency with Sender Email
Consistency is key! Ensure your sender email looks professional. Instead of using something like christine@mg.yourdomain.com, use christine@yourdomain.com. Update this in your sub-account settings in High Level. This simple change can make a big difference in how your emails are perceived and delivered.
Step 4: Avoid Using Gmail or Yahoo Addresses
Never use personal email addresses like Gmail or Yahoo for your professional communications. This practice can destroy your deliverability rates. Always use your business domain to send emails. This approach not only looks more professional but also helps in maintaining high deliverability rates.
Step 5: Make It Easy to Unsubscribe
Making it easy for your audience to unsubscribe is crucial for maintaining a good sender reputation. In your High Level account, navigate to the settings of your sub-account and ensure that the unsubscribe link is included in all your emails. This action helps in keeping your email compliance intact and reduces the risk of your emails being marked as spam.
Bonus Tip: Check Your Email Deliverability and Spam Rate
To maintain high deliverability rates, regularly check your email statistics in High Level. Use tools like Mail-tester to assess the spamminess of your emails. Send the exact email you plan to use to a test address from Mail-tester and check the score. This tool provides insights into how to improve your email content to avoid being marked as spam.
Implementing these steps will help you stay compliant and improve your email deliverability, ensuring your marketing campaigns reach their intended audience.
